Dr. Mary Schenk began her undergraduate studies at the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Maracay, Venezuela. She traveled to study at Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998 and earned the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduate Certificate and the International Programs Award for Clinical Proficiency, both in 1999. Dr. Mary completed her internship in 2000 at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
For the first few years after graduating, Dr. Mary worked in emergency and critical care. While she loved caring for patients in this fast-paced environment, Dr. Mary desired to develop a deeper, more meaningful relationship between the clients, pets, and herself. She wanted to be able to take care of the patient for longer, rather than once in the clinic.
To reach her goal, Dr. Mary started Mobile Pet Doctor in 2004 with the mission of giving clients and patients the time they need and deserve during an appointment and to better understand and aid the owner/pet relationship. A mobile practice is more convenient for the owner, more relaxed for the pet, and allows Dr. Mary the opportunity to better understand the environments in which the pets are being raised in.
Dr. Mary is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), American Society for Veterinary Clinic Pathology, Veterinary Hospitals Association, and Southeast Minnesota Veterinary Association.
In her spare time, Dr. Mary likes to dance country music, line dancing, swing, waltz, and Latin. She enjoys creating vegan dishes, is an avid recycler, and shares her home with Lima Bean, a rescued Cockapoo (she thinks). Dr. Mary is a native of Pittsburgh, lived in Venezuela, and speaks both English and Spanish fluently.
